Suicide and the first steps in dealing with suicidal thoughts with our newest expert, Dr. Sean Richardson. Dr. Sean coaches, trains and develops programs based on knowledge of human performance and the psychology of excellence.
You might one of those people at home right now, in a dark place. You may have gone to a very dark place and thought about taking your own life. If I were sitting with you right now there are a couple things I would want to say to you. The first one is, I really don’t want you to do that. The next thing I’d do is, I’d want to sit down with you and listen. And find out who you are as a person because there is no judgement coming from me.
What I know is that I don’t know what it feels like to be in pain like you are, but if you are thinking about taking your life there’s got to be some pain going on. There’s a very natural, logical part of your brain that says, ‘Hey I’m in pain and if I do this thing I can end the pain.’ But if you’ve ever talked to someone who has tried and not succeeded, they’ll tell you, the moment they took some action they wished they hadn’t.
There’s an extraordinary possibility in every single one of us, the problem is that it’s hidden from your view. There are people that care, there are people who see that possibility. Allow yourself to hear that from them.
Anyone can change their lives. If you don’t know where to start, reach out for help. Start with a friend, just be with someone. Tell them your story, but really, the best thing you can do is reach out for professional help. Call a suicide hotline and do something because the world needs its humans and you are one of them.
